if it were as described here, the Federal Republic would be the supreme state
however, this is no longer defined as an area (see Article 23 of the Basic Law)
joining is not dissolution !!!!! (Austria also joined the EU and was not dissolved with it)
A dissolution would be to dissolve a constitution. This is only possible through the people, as well as giving a new constitution. (Amendments or reforms to a constitution would be possible with a two-thirds majority)
In contrast to the FRG, the GDR had and still has a constitution given by the people. This was never dissolved and thus the GDR legally continues to exist according to the constitution. Just as there is also the constitution of the German Reich, which is why the GG is just a provisional one.
