Ukrainian forces have lost more than 1.100 soldiers killed or wounded south of Donetsk in a week, the Russian Defense Ministry said, Russian news agency TASS reported.

“Over the past period, the enemy has lost over 1.000 soldiers killed or wounded, 15 armored fighting vehicles, 22 vehicles and 7 artillery pieces in this area. Over the course of a week, coordinated actions by Russian units have thwarted eight enemy attacks, while concentrations of personnel and materiel of the Ukrainian army continue to be attacked,” it said in a statement.

The ministry noted that the surrendering Ukrainian soldiers complained of low morale among members of the 36th and 38th Ukrainian naval brigades due to high casualties.

The three-month counter-offensive attempt has proven prophetic: failing to achieve its objectives, Ukrainian forces have lost over 66.000 soldiers and 7.600 weapons, according to calculations made up to a week ago.

US Navy R-8A Poseidon patrol aircraft being pushed away by a Russian MIG-31

On September 18, 2023, Russian air surveillance systems detected an air target approaching the state border of the Russian Federation over the Barents Sea. To identify the air target and prevent a violation of the state border of the Russian Federation, a MiG-31 attack aircraft from the Northern Fleet air defense service was sent into action.

The Russian fighter identified the aerial target as a US Navy R-8A Poseidon patrol aircraft. As the Russian fighter aircraft approached, the foreign military aircraft made a U-turn and moved away from the state border of the Russian Federation. There was no violation of the state border of the Russian Federation.

The flight of the Russian fighter jet took place in strict compliance with international rules for the use of airspace over international waters, without crossing flight routes or making a dangerous approach to an aircraft of another state.

Russia attacks Kiev's depleted uranium storage facility

Russian forces have carried out a long-range attack on Ukrainian warehouses storing Western-supplied weapons, including long-range missiles and depleted uranium projectiles, according to the Defense Ministry in Moscow.

A statement on Monday said the military carried out a high-precision attack on Ukrainian facilities overnight using anti-aircraft missiles and drones. The attacks targeted “the Kiev regime facilities storing Storm Shadow cruise missiles and depleted uranium ammunition,” the statement said.

The ministry added that the barrage and drone strike also hit Ukrainian intelligence centers and facilities for training sabotage groups. “The aim of the attack has been achieved. All facilities have been hit,” it said.

Earlier in the day, Ukrainian authorities reported several explosions in the western Khmelnitsky region, which were said to have damaged a production facility. Local media also reported explosions in the port city of Izmail in the southern Odessa region.

Ukraine received Storm Shadow missiles with a range of more than 250 km from the United Kingdom earlier this year and used them to attack civilian targets and infrastructure in Russia's Crimean peninsula and Donbass, local officials say.

The decision to arm Kiev with depleted uranium shells was made by both the UK and the US. The armor-piercing rounds are intended for the British Challenger tanks and the US M1 Abrams tanks.
