A quote from the German Emperor Wilhelm II from his book “Events and Figures 1878 – 1918”, which has already been mentioned in works such as “Behind the Dictators”, is discussed here in the context of the Kaiser's original book. Actually only one reading was planned, but the entire chapter probably takes two readings, so here is part 1.
Chapter VIII, “My Relationship with the Church,” reveals many things about the emperor, highlights his upbringing and his commitment to early ecumenism, his loyalty to the Pope and the Church, and raises questions about how Protestant the Second German Empire actually was.
