This interesting prayer was said in Kansas/USA at the opening session of the Senate there. It seems that a prayer still upsets some people.
When Secretary Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone expected the usual generalities, but here's what they heard:
“Heavenly Father, we come before You today to ask Your forgiveness and to seek Your guidance and direction. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good', but that's exactly what we've done.
- We have lost our emotional balance and turned our values upside down.
- We have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it pluralism.
- We worshiped other gods and called it multiculturalism.
- We endorsed perversion and called it alternative lifestyle.
- We exploited the poor and called it the lottery.
- We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.
- We killed our unborn and called it freedom of choice.
- We've shot abortion advocates and called it justified.
- We failed to discipline our children and called it self-esteem building.
- We abused power and called it politics.
- We have embezzled public funds and labeled it as necessary expenditure.
- We have institutionalized bribery and labeled it as a perk of office.
- We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition.
- We've polluted the air with obscenity and pornography and called it freedom of speech.
- We ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it Enlightenment.
Search us, O GOD, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Amen!"
The reaction came immediately. A number of MPs walked out of the church during the prayer in protest.
In just six weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev. Wright pastors, received more than 5.000 calls, only 47 of which had negative responses.
The Church is now receiving international requests for copies of this prayer from India, Africa and Korea.
May this prayer, with the help of the LORD, sweep across our nation and become our FULL HEART desire to be called “ONE NATION UNDER GOD” again.
