What is a "convention", a "covenant" an "agreement"? A covenant is the equivalent of a contract made in the jurisdiction of the air.
A covenant may be made orally or in writing, and it must always be consensually and fully disclosed to be valid.
The most famous covenant on earth is the first covenant between God the Creator and Adam, which Adam broke. We, the descendants of Adam, can restore the First Covenant by honoring it and accepting our role as stewards of the earth, albeit subject to the penalties to which it is subject (at covenant-break).
The second most famous covenant is the covenant between God and Abraham. This second covenant still applies to all who are actually descendants of Abraham, including the descendants of Ishmael and Isaac.
Other covenants are made in the Bible, even the covenant God made with his personal servant Jeremiah to prosper and give him the land he had inherited.
With the coming of Yeshua, another great covenant was made, called the New Covenant.
I am tempted to comment on these little-known forms of the law, for it is evident that people are confused and do not know what to do or think about the laws of the covenants.
If you are not descended from Abraham, which basically means you are either an Arab or a Hebrew or a Samaritan or an Ethiopian, you have no inheritance from Abraham and cannot inherit under his covenant. That should be as clear as the fact that your neighbor's son inherits your neighbor's property. And not you
The Hebrew branch of the family, after the long sojourn in Egypt, was so unruly and illiterate that they were additionally placed under the rod of Moses, and so they were all subjected to the law of Moses as a scourge and scourge. The yoke that was imposed on them was exceedingly heavy.
So we now come to modern times and the effect of the New Covenant.
In the late 1980's a new fad emerged in the Christian community. It began as an innocent and sincere effort to better understand where Yeshua came from, to understand the culture and religion from which Yeshua emerged, and so these Christians, and often whole communities, became involved in the effort to learn Hebrew and embrace Judaism study and they began to study and keep the laws of Moses and the feast days and all the many traditions of the Hebrews.
These innocent people have no idea of covenants or federal law.
They point to the Scriptures where Jesus speaks to his disciples, one Hebrew at a time, telling them that the law will not pass away until everything is fulfilled and that he did not come to destroy the law but to to fulfill it.
What else could he do but fulfill it, since he was born under that law?
And how was the law imposed on the Hebrews to pass away before God's promise to Abraham was fulfilled?
Those Christians who think that by accepting the yoke of the Hebrews they become heirs miss the heart of the matter.
Yeshua, a Hebrew and a son of Abraham, could inherit the Second Covenant. Most of us can't do that. If we are to inherit, the only way we can inherit is through adoption by a true son of Abraham.
For us non-Hebrews, this is the meaning of the New Covenant. He makes us sons and daughters. He makes us heirs.
Yeshua's fulfillment of the Mosaic Law frees us from that as well, as we become heirs through the New Covenant and the New Law given to us. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened (with the law of Moses), and I will give you rest.”
Thus it was said to the followers of Yeshua: "Love your God (the Father, the Maker) with all your heart, and with all your mind, and with all your soul, and your neighbor as yourself."
This New Covenant law superseded the entire law of Moses, the obligations of the feast days, and all the other signs, symbols, and requirements of the Hebrew faith, including circumcision.
This does not mean that the Abrahamic covenant was voided, it simply means that we have our own covenant, made possible by Yeshua, and a New Law of the Covenant, too.
We could never become heirs to the Abrahamic covenant because not all of us were related to Abraham, but Yeshua, an heir to the Abrahamic covenant, made a New Covenant for us.
And against this backdrop of covenant law and inheritance, the love and importance of this New Covenant and New Law only becomes more amazing and poignant.
So what is the confirmation of the New Covenant? Yeshua is the seal of the new covenant - he himself, his own body, became the seal binding that new covenant. He guaranteed him with his body and blood and his sincere prayer over us that we are his heirs.
And our part in it? Our seal on the New Covenant is our faith in God, who was always our Maker, but who is now our Father through His Son Yeshua, who adopted us and made us part of His family and heirs to the Kingdom of God.
The final third seal of the New Covenant on earth is the Holy Spirit, the baptism of fire residing in our hearts.
The undeserved gift is so beyond any notion of generosity and so completely undeserved that just writing these words brings tears to my eyes.
Those who thought they were chosen and blessed to be the seed of Abraham were horrified. They could not understand how the lawless and heathen people of the earth should be inheritors of Abraham's covenant alongside those who, by blood and harsh discipline, were among the heirs under the Mosaic law.
They certainly didn't understand Yeshua's decision. They thought he was a complete apostate who wanted to break Abraham's covenant - and gave away their inheritance. No wonder the mob was furious.
However, had they stopped and taken the trouble to understand the goodness and justice of the true God, they would have remembered that he disciplines those he loves and that he is the same today and tomorrow and all our yesterdays.
They would have known that the New Covenant did not overrule the Abrahamic covenant, and they would not have worried about their share as heirs. You would have known or guessed that our Father brings each of us into his own home and happiness.
We will all be replete, in grace and health, in peace and in every kind of abundance, and we will know that these blessings have been tailored for us by He who designed the pattern of our being, who gave us our consciousness, who guided our experiences, bestowing upon us every blessing we have ever known—and worthy of our unfathomable and eternal love.
Therefore, first of all, you were commanded to love the true God with all your heart, mind, and soul.
And second, to love your neighbor as yourself.
